Happy New Year

Well, things are looking a bit grim on the remix horizon lately. I found out the Beastie Boys aren't going to be releasing their weekly acapellas to feed my acrapella jones, so that project may go on hiatus for awhile. 21 remixes is pretty good though, so i'm not complaining by any means, but i'll miss them. I've got at least one more i'm about half way done with, and there are still a couple that are released which I haven't done. It might be a good time for a beastie break though.

I also found out remixfight is going through a flux state server change thing, which might affect a couple remixes i've done lately so i'm just going to post them here and say happy new year and enjoy the latest remixes i've done. The first is by Mostly Harmless and is appropriately named "The Vishnu Recyle", which features the talents of a couple guys named Puce and Plat. The second remix is something I did as part of some bigger ongoing project which I think might still be happening, but I'm pretty clueless about this one. I know it's being organized by some guy named Aaron Ackerson. I'm not clueless at all about the mix I did for it, which I think turned out pretty good. The mix is called "10 Pounds of Love".

I also remixed a track by DJ Lang, which features a rap artist named J. Gomes. I just decided to name the remix after him as I admired his braggadacio and felt he earned it. You can check out "J. Gomes" below.

Seasons Remixes

I liked the Ms. Vybe remix I did so much I did another. This time, I took a vocal track she did called "Runnin My Mouth" and turned it into "Could You Shut Your Mouth?"

I also added a new Beasties remix to the acrapella page. A little "Body Groovin" to put some bump in your holiday grind. Enjoy.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Backing up Miz Vybe

I took an acapella track called "Emcee One" by an artist named Ms. Vybe that I picked up from ccmixter.org and added a backing mix to it. I thought it was a pretty tight track she did.

Brainpipe

New Remixfight! means another new remix by yours truly. Brainpipe is a side project of Starfinger and Heuristics Inc, a couple other songfighters whose stuff i've individually remixed before. Cool tune and a fun one to remix. Mine's kind of dancey, like something you might hear in a disco in idaho somewhere, if such a place was to actually exist.

My Margarita

The latest Remixfight features Chris Burleson, a pretty talented recording artist. I've got a new remix over there. Go check them out and pick your fave. Lots of good stuff.

And if that wasn't enough, I added a new Beasties remix on the Acrapella page.

The Beastie Boys vs. Brad Sucks

I know I swore off any more Brad remixes but this was too tough to resist. Brad's swan song mashup.

"Look and Feel Years Younger" vs. "It Takes Time to Build"

Enjoy.

Beasties on the Brain

Man, I've been doing alot of Beastie Boys remixes lately. I've decided to put them all together into a project I'm calling "Acrapella", which I guess will be an ongoing project dedicated to their remixes, and which I'm in the process of building a dedicated webpage for. I've already linked a few of the remixes here, and I've been posting others to the Beastie Boys website, so I might as well include a few more links to ones I've done recently.

3 Times the Trouble - MC Jack in the Box

It's Like Dat Y'all - MC Jack in the Box

United States of Mind - MC Jack in the Box

Alternative Lifestyles - MC Jack in the Box

I've also done a couple mashups using acapella Beastie Boys tracks. One featured another acapella track from DJ Lang featuring G. Wills. The other mashup is going to be featured in the next Remixfight for The Idiot Kings. I've linked them below as well.

Still Hustlin the Word - MC Jack in the Box

Third String Mashup - MC Jack in the Box

And I've got one more Beasties remix I'll post on Halloween. Enjoy.

Future Boy

Future Boy is an independent recording artist based in Montreal, Canada. He recently wrote and produced an album "A Maze of Death", based on the book by Phillip K. Dick. I took his track "Strange Little World" and remixed it for the most recent Remixfight. Check it out. Hell, check them all out while you're at it.

Looking for Missing Relatives

"The Past Didn't Go Anywhere" was a collaborative project put out a few years ago by Ani Difranco and Utah Phillips, and once I heard the CD, I was hooked. It really opened my eyes to the artist that is Utah Philips, a storyteller, folksinger, and man of the people. It inspired me to try something like what Ani Difranco did, so I searched around and found a short monologue/intro that he did somewhere years ago. Then i tried to create a mix that blended elements of hip hop, funk, and country. All elements I sort of associate with Utah Phillips. You can check out my remix "Looking for Missing Relatives" by clicking the link below.

Only

Well, I felt pretty good about THTF remix I did, so I decided to snatch the source for "Only", another NIN song that TR recently put up for grabs. I tried to rock my version up alot, similar to what I was going for on "The Hand That Feeds". I may still add a few more tracks to fill it out, but I think it carries a pretty good sonic space right now too.

The Hand That Feeds

Trent Reznor recently released the source material for the Nine Inch Nails song "The Hand That Feeds". This morning, I was bored so I decided to remix it. It was actually alot of fun to do, his loops were pretty good for the most part. I didn't use any of his original drums, decided to create my own from Reason. All the other material is from his source.

You can check out my remix here.

Kneel

I just wrapped up a remix of Redcar's "Blueberry Hassle", which should be posted up on Remixfight! in a few days.

In the meantime, here's a link to a remix I did using samples from "The Young Ones", a popular UK comedy show. I used to watch it back in college and loved it. Dedicated to the Prank Monkey.

Elvis in Space

A while back, some friends of mine, who coincidentally share the same birthday, decided to record a Songfight! tune for the occasion under the guise of The Elite Inner Echelon Blood-Circle. It happens to be the featured song in the current Remixfight! and I've got a belated birthday remix, seeing as it was just their birthday last week. So happy belated birthday to Ken, Glenn, and Fluffy.

Systematic Panic

New remix over on Remixfight! of The John Benjamin Band's "Systematic Panic". I tried to really change it up alot on this one. The original on this rocks pretty good too.

The Silverback Virus, Rocky, Jar Jar Binks, and more!

It's been a while since I've posted anything but not for a lack of effort in production. I've got a short remix of a song called "Virus" by The Silverback over on Remixfight! I wish I'd had more time to work on it, but I think it came out ok. I also did a remix of a Bill Berry song called "The problem from the start" where i used a loop sample that was named "adrian_yeah" (or something like that), which inspired me to throw together a Rocky inspired remix that uses a bunch of samples from various Rocky movies.

I also worked up a couple of loop based tunes for Songfight! recently under different guises. "Don't break my heart again George Lucas" was submitted under the name "The Jet Eye" and features the vocal stylings of my buddy from the great white north, The Hip Cola. I also tried to set a theme by using various samples of Jar Jar Binks, arguably the most annoying thing to ever come out of George's brain. Finally, I also took my first foray into the world of mashups by taking 2 songs by internet rockstar Brad Sucks and pureeing them into a Pasty White Man rapfest. Luco Brazzi sleeps with the fishes tonight.

Elephento Ovni - Lanark remixed

I remixed a tune by Lanark called "El Efecto Ovni" for the current remixfight. I thought it came out pretty nicely. I broke my self imposed rule of staying within the loopset and added a bunch of keyboard tracks to supplement the loops i used. I also rveresed a few of the loops as well, and created a new drumkit in Reason. You can hear my remix here or you can check out all the remixes for this fight here.

I've also got another remix that's pretty much done for Bill Berry. I'll post that in due time.

Chainsaw

I posted a few new links to the remixes I just wrapped up for the obscurity remixfight! I like how they turned out, but I think I've gotten pretty burned out on remixing so i'm going on hiatus for awhile. I've started working on a new Brad Sucks remix but I think after that I might take a break and focus more on the original music. Enjoy the tunes and check out remixfight for more really cool remixes.

Mo Music

I've got a couple new remixes posted up over on Remixfight! I did 2 different versions of a song called "Piano Keys" by DJ RedShirt, a remixfight stalwart. His tune is an instrumental track so to shake things up a bit, I really threw one mix into left field with a Topol inspired version I dubbed "fiddler on a goof". I've been having fun with fiddle samples lately, which I liberally and gratuitously used throughout this remix. But I did use a number of original samples, including the main bassline, select keys, and synth. The other remix I did features a number of samples I got from ccmixter.org.

I've also done 3 versions of the upcoming obscurity remixfight which should be posted sometime around the first of March. I'll post the links to them at that time. I really enjoyed working on the obscurity remix. Great mix and great vocals by JB.

Just don't call him Pucey

New remix over on Remixfight! The Pawnbroker's Stepdaughter by Puce is the latest recipient of my ADD (Audio Dysfunction Disorder). I pretty much stuck to his loopset (except the drums) and this was a really fun project. From one bloody ham to another, it was a blast. great original.

Allez Cuisine!

The Iron Clef makes a rare appearance, flagrantly disregarding the ethics of commercial-for-profit-music-ideology by paying homage in his own special way to Iron Chef Chen Kenichi. Asparagus Battle is completely made up from vocal clips from the actual Iron Chef "asparagus battle" episode, music samples from the show, and drum programming the Iron Clef created in Reason.

Donkey T remixed

New remix is posted over on the new, improved Remixfight. The original tune is called Sleepless, by UK recording artist Donkey T, a really great independent producer. My remix is pretty standard fare for me, fairly true to the original loopset with the exception of the drums, which i replaced entirely. Check out all the cool remixes as there are alot of interesting interpretations.
